How To Bathe Your Dog
Some Ideas
Every now and then all dogs need a bath. They find something really stinky to play with, or they will corner a skunk, or they just can’t walk by a mud puddle. Here are a few tips when bathing your dog.
Use a tub or shower that is closed in on three sides. The three walls will encourage your pup to stay in place. Your body becomes the fourth wall.
Maintain contact with your dog. Talk to your dog with a gentle, soothing voice. Your dog will be nervous and your touch and voice will help to calm him.
Use warm water when possible. The warm water will help your dog to relax. Soaps will rinse quicker and cleaner with warm water.
Be careful around the eyes. Even our natural soap will irritate your dog’s eyes. You may consider stopping at your drug store and pickup some glycerin eye drops. You can find it in the eye care section. A couple of drops in each eye will help to protect from irritation from soap.
Using one of our bar soaps, lather your dog from head to tail to toe. When you have a good lather then use your fingertips to massage the lather through the hair and down to the skin. Rinse well, and then repeat. Rinse well on the last rinse. You don’t want soap left on your dog. The natural oils we add will stay in the fur and on the skin to keep your dog healthy, happy and smelling fresh.
Use several towels to dry your dog. He will smell like a wet dog, but that will fade as he dries.
Don’t forget to use an ear cleaner! You can find ear cleaner at your local pet store or your vet.
Make it fun! Your pet will appreciate the attention and after a few times, he will look forward to bath day.
